They appear to be Ruger .22 caliber marksman training pistols, partially modified for competition. They are big only to provide a buttress for the thousands of rounds one would normally put through them to support training.

I was hesitant to go prior to January, after my briefing. Once there, projects seemed to get back on track. I suggested a few recommendations that some return home to help with intracoastal dredging operations on the East Coast of the US. In other areas, where guidance was requested, outside my normal realm of experience, I shared that a more assertive change of thinking was required in the choice of 'friendly" warlords operating in our area.

Things were peaceful along our stretch of the border at my leaving.

But "plain" and "butch" female soldiers should not have to deal with complaints about their looks. It's irrelevant to their duty. (Not even civilian women should have to deal with this. I don't think anyone is expected to do both. The complaints on this thread were mostly about the REQUIREMENT that women cover in some countries. I don't think very many people on this board would think badly of a woman in the US or any other free country who covers out of piety. It's the requirement of the veil (or more) that rankles. That a very few women soldiers decide to pose provocatively is a fact. That men enjoy their poses is probably unavoidable.
