Planet Mars will be the brightest star in the night sky starting in August. It will look as large as the full moon to the naked eye.....culminating on Aug. 27 when Mars comes within 34.65M miles of earth. Be sure to watch the sky on 8/27 - 12:30am. It will look like the earth has 2 moons. The next time Mars comes this close will be in 2287.

dittohead not!

Nope. As large as the full moon? That hardly seems possible, but it is quite possible that Mars will be brighter than usual. Do you have a link?

That's awesome. Too bad I'll probably forget about it by then.

Mars will not appear as big as the moon. As bright perhaps, but a bright speck no bigger than it always is.
