VANCOUVER — RCMP officers involved in the death of Robert Dziekanski at Vancouver International Airport will be subpoenaed to appear at a B.C. public inquiry examining the October 2007 incident, whether or not the Crown has made a decision on any possible charges.

The inquiry has twice been delayed while the Crown gathers information and ponders whether any of the four officers involved in the incident could face charges.

The inquiry is now scheduled to resumed Jan. 19 and inquiry commissioner Thomas Braidwood issued a statement Tuesday saying subpoenas will be issued to the officers if Crown counsel has not made a decision on charges by then.

“I think the commissioner realizes that we have tried to accommodate the timing of some others,” said commission counsel Art Vertlieb. “But at some point you have to make a decision to get on and do what you are instructed to do.”
