Almost 34.6 million people lived in poverty in the U.S. That's about 12.1 percent of the population! It's about 1.7 million more than the previous year, and it's the second year in a row the number increased. What does that mean for the economy?

The economy went through a recession- that is a lagging indicator of what has already happened. Now that the economy is on the rise, those numbers will shrink.

Also that number is a bit misleading. Poverty is not "poverty".

I was considered in the poverty level once. Although I feed my family and paid my bills just fine. We weren't eating, dirt or anything. I don't know what it is at now, but then it was around $20,000 for my area.
