cpwill, I'll pray for you. If you need any help or advice, send me a private message.

While we may not agree on many political issues, I have the impression from your writings that you are a good person and I have nothing against you.

CP, you know I find you to be one of the good ones. You are already looking at this crisis in the right way. Life is for learning, and as Jesus said long ago, "Father, if you can, take this cup from me. But let Thy will, not mine, be done." (or take the Rasta mantra "Don't worry...be happy!")

Best wishes cpwill.

It's funny, although you and I have never really met, after 2 years or so of correspondence here and elsewhere I feel as if I've gotten to know you pretty well. I seem to remember a year and a half ago or so you were going through some rough times and dropped out of site for a while. I remember thinking when you surfaced again that you seemed... wiser, older... you had experienced and grown form it.

I have come to know you as a man of integrity and honor. I have no doubt you will emerge from the current experience in much the same fashion.

Hang in there.

Just out of curiousity, for those of you that replied and those of you who may read this, I'd be interested to know what your experience is with prayer and what you think it is worth.

I'm not sure how much it's worth, but it's worth a try.

CP, Praying 4U.

I always rcmnd reading the Word when in difficult times and seeking direction. I like the New American Standard version of the Bible best. But even the good ol' King James works. God speaks through His Word.

prayer works.
I've seen God answer many prayers! He cares more than we can ever understand.

Well, while I don't belong to any particular religion.. I do pray on occassion.

What it's worth?

I don't honestly know. I do know that it probably does as much good, as you think it will. I believe that's why they call believing in religion "faith".

The only way to change things in your life is to do it yourself. Prayer is a good thing, if you believe in that but you also have to help yourself. God can't do everything for you.

Prayer was created to keep one's mind dwelling on God. An aide to focus.

In my world, it is has no value once the person has become truly God conscious. All of a sudden, you become aware of the fact that God is already aware of your thoughts. Why repeat what is already known?

No, prayer is like the hammer which shapes the mind into the form of God. Some minds are more mallable than others.

In Islam, this hammering is required 5 times a day, whether you need it or not. You are always welcome to do more than the minimum. It'll do you no harm.

Pray, if you feel seperated from God. I don't pray, because I feel God every waking moment.

But I do listen. God has much to whisper into any ear willing to listen.

Good point Alucard. God helps those who help themselves. God is a big supporter of taking the initiative. He isn't going to give you the success you pray for just by asking and sitting on your butt.

I don't pray a lot. Me and God are on this understanding (if you can call it that) and I make very few exceptions to this. Just know that I'll be praying for you CP, and I pray that He gives you comfort.

Honestly, talking to God never made sense to me. I've only tried it a few times. Buddhist prayers are more affirmations. Finding zen begins with quieting the internal mental chatter; amazingly, when you reach the "silent place" you become one with God. Instead of asking for something for yourself or another, you have everything you need and are joyful and grateful, and you become the other who is needing or suffering.

I don't have a lot of big words or doctrines for this, but every sentient being, (including you!), is in my "prayers." Peace.

Personally,God has worked miracles in my life through prayer. If you ask, it will be given you if it is accordance with God's will

okedoke, i figure ya'll should know what you've been praying me up for.

honestly, now, on this end, it looks rather silly; that i got upset for what may or may not turn out to be that big of a deal.

but first, i want to say that this experience has convicted me more than anything i can think of of the power of prayer. i have felt so..... so much more assured, so lifted up, so very bouyoyed during the last week or so; its' really been almost unreal:) that, i am convinced, is a direct result of ya'll and others who prayed for me, i felt your influence quite strongly, and for the strength you gave me, i thank you all very deeply.

basically; long story short is this:

since i was about 12 i was going into the army. i was going through jrotc in highschool and then rotc in college. i was quite positive in this, and felt strongly that God had led me to the military. then, about a week ago, due to my own screwups, i lost rotc (in my junior year of college). as i go to a fairly expensive school, suddenly even my ability to graduate seemed to be shrinking rapidly. i now had no money for school, no direction in life, and (it seemed) no purpose. leaving school to take a full time minimum wage job (or enlisting) while somehow attempting to pay off the 54,000 dollar debt that i incurred by getting discharged from rotc seemed to be ever more my two options.

however, God's hand is always upon us, and while we can fail, we can never fail so that He can't plan around it. God has planned around my failure, and i think He might just lead me out of this to where He wants me to go.

so, that's where i am now.

and i am so thankful for the prayers.

yours,
-cpwill

it'll work out man. i have a pile of student loans on my back. you know the health issues. you also know i don't pray to any gods. What I will do is tell you this, you have friends...you have family...that's alot. And everybody here knows you're one of the good guys. so, derive strength in the way that's RIGHT FOR YOU...

you will be fine...shake the doubt out and move on

You can still go into Marine Corps Officer Training Class, and I believe they will help pay some of your college costs and you'd come out with a commission. You should talk to a recruiter about that if it is still an option. Plus Marines have snappier uniforms.

Unfortunately men sometimes have to fight. Cp mentioned earlier that he felt his calling was to be a soldier, so this may be the right choice for him. (I mean if you want to be a soldier, then a marine would be even better! It's a hamburger vs. steak dilemma)

Thanks for sharing, cp. I don't think He MIGHT work things out, I know He WILL work things out. Sometimes He takes away things that we have let become more important than Him, sometimes, He just lets our dreams shatter. But you know, then He always turns around, picks up the pieces, and reveals dreams of His own for us that are deeper and more fulfilling than anything we could have imagined. So, just know that I am praying for you; lean into God's embrace.
