I think the first sentence says it all:

Consumers flush with cash from income-tax refunds kept checkout lines humming last month, propelling sales at America's retailers to the highest level in 12 months.

More proof that the recovery is here and real and largely thanks to Bush.

Gopman I am all for the US economy doing well. But you need to tackle the national debt and the deficeit.

Remember in terms of economics when the US sneezes the rest of the world catches a cold.

I thought your economy over there is doing well?

Its doing fine, but if yours goes into freefall under the debt burden, ours will be dragged down with it. And not just ours.

Our deficit is 5% of our GDP, which I wouldn't even consider a sneeze, and a significant portion of the budget goes to paying down our national debt.

Yes but what do "Professional" Economists say about the debt to gdp ratio?

The problem as I see it is that this is all temporary.

Tax Cuts => Less money for the government => More money for the people => More money to spend => Deficit grows => A lot of money is currently needed by the government => Deficit grows => Taxes have to be re-instated => everything that went up goes down again

That is a simplistic version of it. I wish the tax cuts given at the US were given in a better more peaceful time when the government didn't need so much funds. All this seems to be doing is creating a bigger problem to shoving it off to the next government.

That leaves alot of things out. The tax cuts are creating growth, which finances itself. The taxes do not have to be reinstated.
