In my State of Texas the Republican's have made a mad dash go redraw our district lines. Currently, my state has 17 democrats and 15 republicans elected into office. Soon, the numbers will be something like 20 republicans and 12 democrats. The way they are doing this is by cutting all but one minority districts. Most of our hispanic and african-american districs will be combined with districts that republicans have a strong hold. Our redistricting maps are drawn every ten years the last time was in 2000. The new maps will be breaking up districts that were made only three years ago.

Gerrymandering at its best, er, worst. Unfortunately, that has been a problem for years. There have been some bitter disputes in NY about that aswell.

It seems that this type of activity comes and goes depending own which side has the leverage at the time.

If I remember correctly, back in `90 NYC was divided up so there were no districts with Latino majorities despite the large Latino population.
I think any manipulation that serves one party or another at the expense of fair representation is despicable.
